Finding the Perfect Fit

Success Story

After some serious soul searching, Connie Beech landed her dream job. She had been unemployed for a year and a half. At the age of 57, she decided to go back to school and get her master’s degree in Education. Unfortunately, after she finished her degree, the economy took a turn for the worse and Connie was unable to find work.

Looking for a job was nothing new to her. This was her fourth career change. Connie would always get the seven year itch but had never looked for work during a recession. She decided to tighten her purse strings and do what she had to do to find work.

She joined CONNECT!(1) and ProMatch(2) in Sunnyvale, CA and took advantage of all the workshops they offer. She also posted her resume on Career Builder, Monster, Simply Hired and Indeed.com. Connie wanted to take advantage of all the tools out there, so she searched through the want ads on Craigslist and updated her profile on LinkedIn.

After applying to about twenty jobs, a friend of hers told her about a job lead. Connie quickly followed up and called the Human Resources department at the company. She was able to get a hold of the right person and found that she would be a good fit for the position. The company had the opening for over a year and was looking for the right person.

Connie now works at HCR Manor Care as a Marketing Sales/Nurse Liaison Specialist. Her master’s degree in Education, along with a B.S. in Nursing and some marketing experience, gives her the right skills for the job. Connie feels she can fully utilize her experiences at this job. Although, she works a lot of hours she really enjoys what she does.
