I became unemployed after my company went bankrupt late February 2009. Until summer, the job market was a disaster. I joined ProMatch(1) in June and took a lot of job training classes there and did a lot of networking. Unfortunately, I timed out of ProMatch after six months. However right before Christmas, my ex-boss and good friend invited me to interview at his company. He had been hired the month before. At that company, another colleague of mine had been hired back in summer. I interviewed with her and my ex-boss along with the director. The position was for night shift and I wasn't too enthusiastic about that. The interview went very well, but I didn't get the job. However a few weeks later, my colleague at the company that I had interviewed with had recommended me to this recruiter who was looking to fill a position at a solar company. She let me know about the recruiter and he called me. We agreed that my skills from the semiconductor field were a great match. So the recruiter contacted the hiring manager at the solar company, and I got an interview. The hiring manager was having a tough time filling the position with a candidate he liked. Apparently, he really liked me and invited me to come another day to interview with eight other people. Again, the interview went well. I got a unanimous vote of confidence from the team and was offered a job, one year after having been laid off. It's wonderful to be working again!
